Abstract

646,779. Saw-tooth generating circuits. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. March 8, 1947, No. 6545. Convention date, March 9, 1946. [Class 40 (vi)] In a magnetic deflecting circuit for a C.R. tube, used in television apparatus, in which a damping valve is used to suppress undesired H.F. oscillations, a voltage derived from the saw-tooth current has its wave-shape altered and is applied to the damping valve to improve the linearity of the sawtooth current. The Figure shows a deflecting circuit for a C.R. tube 26 in which a voltage 12 applied to valve 10 generates a saw-tooth current in the deflecting coils 14. Undesired H.F. oscillations occurring at the end of the forward trace are suppressed by the damping valve 40 and the network 42, 52. The non-linearity of the forward trace introduced by the damping circuits is compensated for by applying a voltage derived from the transformer winding 18 and phase-shifted by the network 58, 60 to the cathode of the diode 40. Inductor 60 may be permeability tuned to enable the wave-shape of the linearizing voltage to be adjusted. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the inductor 60 of Fig. 1 is fixed and the wave-shape is varied by means of two variable inductors connected in series with each of capacitors 42, 58. In a further modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the cathode of the damping valve and the lead to the scanning transformer are connected to tappings on the inductor 60.
