Abstract
Artificial fibres are made from an acrylonitrile polymer or copolymer in which there is incorporated up to 20 per cent by weight of a vinyl lactam polymer as a dyeing adjuvant. Alternatively an acrylonitrile polymer or copolymer is wet-spun from an aqueous saline solution, e.g. 60 per cent zinc chloride solution, into an aqueous coagulation bath, and the fibres are treated with a vinyl lactam polymer in a further bath. The products, when mixed with cotton or viscose rayon fibres or mixtures thereof, give blends which can be uniformly dyed.ALSO:To impart uniform dyeing properties to a fibre blend comprising fibres of cotton or viscose rayon, or mixtures thereof, and fibres of a polymer or copolymer of acrylonitrile, there is incorporated in the polymer or copolymer up to 20 per cent by weight of a vinyl lactam polymer. The blend may then be dyed with vat, direct, naphthol or sulphur dyestuffs, and may take the form of a yarn spun from staple fibre lengths of the constituent fibres or made by twisting continuous lengths of the fibres, or the form of a fabric constructed from individual yarns of each of the fibres. Specified vinyl lactam products are polymers and copolymers of vinylpyrrolidone or vinyl caprolactam. Dyeings on a blend comprising equal proportions of acrylic fibres and viscose rayon staple are described.
