Abstract

Threads or staple fibres having improved dyeability with direct acid and premetallized dyes are formed by spinning a fibre-forming composition comprising viscose in which is incorporated an N-vinyl lactam polymer into a coagulating bath containing H2SO4 and Na2SO4 with or without ZnSO4 or MgSO4 washing, desulphurizing and bleaching. The polymer, which preferably amounts to 2 - 5% wt. based on the cellulose, may have M.W. as low as 100,000. Examples of polymers are those of: 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone, 1-vinyl-5-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, 1-vinyl-2-piperidone, and N-vinyl-e -caprolactam. Fabrics and carpets may be made from two types of viscose rayon, one containing the polymer and one not, and then dyed, a two-tone effect resulting.
