812,463. Sewing needles. LESZEN, A. S. Oct. 29, 1956, No. 32970/56. Class 112 A sewing needle comprises a shank 2 ending in an elongated, flattened and pointed head portion 3 substantially oval in side view and provided with an elongated eye 4 and a thread-groove 13 extending rearwardly from the latter, the head portion being formed with a threading slot 5 which leads from a rear entrance end 6 at an edge of the head portion to a front end 7 at one side of the rear portion of the eye, the slot being formed by a bifurcation of the head portion so as to form a resilient curved arm 8 which is adapted to flex outwardly to permit passage of a thread, the needle being provided also with a cutaway portion 10 near the head portion to accommodate said arm so that the inner side of the entrance end 6 of the slot is adjacent the axis of the shank 2. In a modification the head portion is provided with a tongue 15 extending forwardly partway into and across the eye and across the front end of the slot to prevent the thread from entering said front end from the eye.
