Abstract

779,270. Pins; button fasteners. PRYM, H. A., CONTA, W., and KOEHL, H. Sept. 15, 1954 [Sept. 17, 1953], No. 26793/54. Class 43. A pin for forming a stitch in textile material, either for the purpose of fastening two layers of material together, or for attaching a shanked button such as a uniform button to clothing, comprises a length of stiff bendable wire having a central attaching portion 5, Figs. 1 and 5, adapted to be passed through the material twice to form a stitch at one side thereof, and two end-tying portions 1 and 2 adjacent to the central portion 5 to engage the opposite side of the material and hold the stitch tightly, at least one of said end-tying portions being in the form of an eye and including a pointed tip directed substantially at right-angles towards and adjacent to the end of the central attaching portion that is tied by said eye. In the example both ends of the wire pin are pointed and formed with eyes 1, 2 respectively, and the intermediate portion 5 is looped upwardly from the plane of the eyes, the attachment of two layers of material being facilitated by bending the pointed end of the eye 1 out of the said plane. Small notches 16 may be provided in the wire to receive the points at the extremities of the eyes. The loop 5 can be engaged with the metal loop of a uniform button 8, Fig. 6 (not shown). In a modification one of the pointed eyes is replaced by an unpointed eye. A pin of the form shown in Fig. 1 may be provided with a guard 13, Fig. 10, of plastic or other material, comprising a closely fitting envelope with a side opening 14 through which an eye may be inserted and a top opening or slit 15 to accommodate the central loop 5.
