Abstract
811,407. Making gas turbine blades; brazing. AVERY, B. A. March 28, 1957 [Aug. 15, 1956], No. 10207/57. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). A fabricated turbine blade is made by brazing a pair of root blocks 18, 19 to a blade portion 10 with concave and convex surfaces 21, 23, the blocks having internal surfaces 20, 22 corresponding to the surfaces 21, 23 and shoulders 33 which lie adjacent to each other when the blocks are assembled on a blade portion, and protrusions 31 are provided on the blocks for ensuring a close uniform space between the blade portion and the blocks and thus produce a constant thickness of braze therebetween. The blocks also have lips 32. Side extensions 24 with slots 25 enable the assembly of the blade portion and blocks to be clamped together by bolts 26. The assembly is then brazed in an oven after brazing metal in rod or strip form has been placed on the lips 32. The extensions are finally cut off and the blade root is then milled to fir-tree or other form, Fig. 1 (not shown). Specification 784,196, [Group XXVI], is referred to.
