Abstract

811,336. Electric heating blankets for liquid - containers. CARRIMORE SIX WHEELERS Ltd., HERBERT, W. E. and LINE. A. E. June 14, 1957 [March 15, 1956], No. 8153/56. Class 39(3) [Also in Group XXXII] A tank vehicle for transporting hot liquid e.g. chocolate, has a tank which in addition to being completely or substantially completely covered by a lagging or heat insulating covering is provided with electric heating blankets 31 interposed between the outside of the tank and said lagging to maintain the contents of the tank hot enough to prevent solidification of the liquid. An electric generator 24 mounted on the forward end of chassis frame 1 and driven by an engine 25 supplies current for the electric heating blankets 31 and heating tapes, which comprise resistance wire interwoven with glass yarn. The blankets 31 are interposed between the tank and the insulating panels 30 and also at the tank ends under panels 41. The heating tapes are wound around the vent pipes and draw-off cocks 14, 15. The heaters can be coupled to the mains supply when the vehicle is in a garage, a switch being provided to isolate the generator as required. Regulation of the heating current may be hand or automatic, control being by means of a field rheostat which controls the voltage of the D.C. shunt wound generator. In the automatic operation a thermostat varies the tappings on the rheostat according to the temperature of the liquid in the tank. Audible or visible warning means are provided in the driver's cab to warn of any excessive variation in the liquid temperature and transmitting thermometers are placed at each end of the tank and connected to temperature indicating means at the side of the vehicle
