Abstract
811,275. Electrically propelled vehicles; controls. YALE & TOWNE MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 26, 1957. No. 6403/57. Class 79(3) [Also in Group XXXVII] Relates to a truck (Fig. 7, not shown) with a tractor unit consisting of a motor,. a gear case and a traction and steering wheel rotatable in a horizontal plane together by a steering handle 12 having control switches 27 mounted at its end and: itself hinged for vertical motion; the switches 27 are housed in a casing 11 supporting a movable actuator 42 that can be engaged with the flexible end 44 of a contact finger 46 fixed to a removable casing cover 34 that supports electrical contact fingers 52-a-b and 53-a-b operated by movement of the finger-end 44. The switches are operated by a plate 36 which is journalled in the top 31 of the casing on spaced pins 38 under a curved guard plate 39. The actuating plunger 42 is pivoted at 41 so as to be moved when the plate 36 is rocked and has a slit 43 to engage the forked end 44 of the finger 46. The fingers are all resilient and the finger 46, when moved upward, will make electrical contacts successively with the fingers 52, 52a. and 52b, and when moved downward successively with the fingers 53, 53a, and 53b. The various fingers control the motor in such a way that manipulation of the plate 36 in one direction causes the truck to move forwards first at a slow speed when only the fingers 46 and 53 are in electrical' contact, and then, as more contact fingers are brought together by further movement of the plate 36, at succesively increasing speeds. Manipulation of the plate 36 in the opposite direction causes similar rearward movement of the truck at successively increasing speeds. The end 59 of a push button 58 passing through the casing wall 31 engages the upper unit of another pair of contact fingers 56, 56a which operate a warning horn for the vehicle. Plug holes 78 are provided in the cover 34 to accommodate push buttons for other control features of the truck if desired.
