Abstract

810,986. Pistons. GREIFENSTEIN, E. R. R. Feb. 17, 1956 [March 9, 1955], No. 5010/56. Class 122 (1). A light-alloy piston has a split washer 5 or 6 interposed between one or each side face of the packing or scraper ring 8 and the adjacent side face or faces of the groove 2 receiving the latter, the ends of the washer being formed with interlocking means to hold the washer in the closed condition. The interlocking means at the ends of the washer are of dovetail, T or similar form. Tongues 7 on the inner edge of the washers hook into undercut formations 3, 4 in the groove 2. If desired, a split collar may be inserted in the base of the groove 2 for the purpose of bracing the washers 5, 6. The washers may be of steel or cast-iron and wholly or partially coated with chromium or cadmium.
