Abstract

810,871. Catch fastenings DESIGN & DEVELOPMENTS Ltd., and FROGGATT, R. E. May 29, 1957 [March 6, 1956], No. 6970/56. Class 44 A cupboard or like door fastening comprises the combination of a plate 8 in which is formed an aperture 12, a ball 13 at the inner side of the plate and adapted to protrude partially through the aperture and means for urging the ball into the aperture which includes a part 14 formed of rubber or other elastic material bonded to the inner side of the plate. As shown the part 14 is in the form of a cup which encompasses the ball closely and a thin metal or other lining 15 is interposed between the ball and the part 14 to prevent direct contact. The lining 15 is shaped to form a reservoir 16 for a lubricant. In a modification the part 14 is replaced by an annular ring having a metal ring bonded to it on its side opposite to the side which is bonded to the plate 8 the hole in the metal ring receiving the inner part of the ball. In a further modification a pair of rubber or other elastic blocks are bonded to the inner side of the plate 8 at geometrically opposite sides of the aperture 12 and these are connected by a metal bridge piece bonded to their inner ends and which bears on the ball; with this construction the ball can be introduced into position after the blocks have been bonded to the plate and bridge piece.
