Abstract
810,665. Resistance bridge measurements. WELWYN ELECTRICAL LABORATORIES Ltd., and FRANCE, G. March 16, 1956, No. 8375/56. Class 37. In Fig. 1 a high-value unknown resistance Rx is connected in series with a standard resistance Rs across a constant voltage source E1 and the voltage across Rs is connected to the input of a high-stability feedback D.C. amplifier 1 of gain A, high input impedance and low output impedance, and a calibrated variable resistance R3 is connected in series with a resistance R2 across a second constant-voltage source E2 ; the voltage across R2 and the amplifier output being connected to opposite poles of a galvanometer 2. Then The amplifier may be of the vibrating capacitance, A.C. amplifying, and rectifying type while the standard voltages may be obtained from a single voltage divider. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) resistance R3 is fixed and the amplifier gain is known and variable.
