Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0810108/IV (b)/1> and salts thereof, wherein <FORM:0810108/IV (b)/2> is the residue of a tertiary amine, and which optionally contain substituents which do not react with alkali metal compounds of hydroxyalkylamines, in the 4-position and/or in the benzene residue R; it comprises also a process for preparing these compounds by reacting the alkali metal compound of a tertiary hydroxyalkylamine with a 1-halogen-phthalazine. Suitable hydroxyalkylamines include diethylamino-, dibutylamino-, piperidino-, pyrrolidino- and morpholino-, ethanol, 1-dimethylamino-2-propanol and hydroxyethyl-methylaniline. The products are used therapeutically as analgesic or antiphlogistic agents, suitably in the form of salts such as the hydrochlorides, hydrobromides, sulphates, benzoates, picrates, citrates or gentisates. Examples describe the preparation of 1-diethylaminoethoxy-, 1-dimethylaminoethoxy - and 1 - dibutylaminoethoxy - phthalazine and 1 - diethylaminoethoxy - 4 - methylphthalazine. 1-Chlorophthalazine is prepared by treating 1 - oxo - 1 : 2 - dihydrophthalazine with phosphorus oxychloride. The preparation of the corresponding 4-methyl derivative by known methods is also referred to. Specification 808,636 is referred to.
