Class 39(2) [Also in Groups VI and XXXVII] A combined waffle baker and grill has upper and lower cases 23, 21 hinged together at 22, and each contains a detachable waffle grid or a grill plate which is heated electrically by a resistance element 24 spaced from the grid or grill plate in S- shaped ceramic brackets 50 attached to rectangular openings in a reflector plate 45. The upper case has a heat shield 56 e.g. of aluminium foil. The lower reflector plate has a raised central part 45c which accommodates a temperature responsive control 30 mounted on a plate 85. An opening 88 in the part 45c exposes a bi-metallic element 117 to heat radiations from the grids or plates, whereas the part 45c shields the element from direct radiation from the heating element. A channel shaped heat reflector 136 substantially encloses three sides of the bi-metallic element, one end of which is attached to a resilient support 119, and when a pre-determined grid temperature is reached the opposite end of the element moves downwardly to open switch contacts 90, 91 thereby interrupting the power supply to the heating elements. Contact 91 is attached to a stationary arm 93 whereas the contact 90 is attached to a resilient arm 92 connected to the element 117 by a post 126. A thermal mass 140 enables a satisfactory control to be effected when the heaters are first connected to the supply. In order to adjust the temperature of operation of the bi-metallic element, a rod 124 has one end threaded in a bracket 122, and its other end extends from the lower case; by turning the rod by a knob 142 its inner end presses against the resilient support 119 to deform it. A translucent control dial is arranged around the knob 142, and a lamp, which is illuminated when the heaters are switched on, is positioned behind it. Each grid, which has a peripheral recess into which excess batter may flow, has a peripheral flange 26a and a protuberance 75 at the front and rear portions, which protuberances are engaged by latch members 76, 78 attached to the reflector plates. Each member 78 extends from its case and between the hinge mechanism 22, and is manually engageable to release the grid, or grill plate. The latter, which may replace the grid, has brackets 82, Fig 13, which co-operate with the latch members. Handles 47 and feet 31, 32 and 33a are arranged on the lower case.
