A closure means for a hatch 2 comprises cover members 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d connected together by chains or cables 7 and having front rollers 4 running on an angle member 5 on the hatch coaming inside a track 6 for grooved rear rollers 3 on the cover members, supporting rollers 12 being provided above and between the running rollers 3, 4 for moving on to supporting track rails 15, so that the cover members are movable from their closed position up to the end 9 of the hatch and there rocked into a substantially vertical stacking position, during which stacking movement the transverse axis passing through the centre of gravity of each cover member is located between the bearing points of the rear running rollers 3 and of the supporting rollers 12 on their respective tracks. A pull A applied to the rearmost cover member 1d causes the cover members to move until the front running rollers 4 leave the angle member 5, the members to move on to friction rollers 13 at the end of the hatch and the rear running rollers 4 to move on to an inclined track 10 leading to a horizontal guide 11, the cover members rocking towards the vertical. The rollers 12 move on to the rails 15 on the inner side of a structure 14 which may also have guides 16 for the rollers 4. The distance between the guides 11 and the rails 15 is smaller than the spacing between the rollers 3 and 12, and the position of the centre of gravity of each cover member is such that the member will remain stacked in a position sloping slightly from the vertical.
