Abstract

809,290. Coated fabrics. FOTHERGILL & HARVEY (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd., and VINYL PRODUCTS Ltd. Nov. 29, 1956 [Dec. 3, 1955], No. 34673/55. Class 140. Fabrics made from synthetic fibres or fibr of mineral origin, e.g. glass, asbestos. nylon, polyesters, are impregnated with a bonding agent comprising a dispersion of a mixture of plasticized polyvinyl chloride, an epoxy resin and a hardener therefor in an organic medium, dried, cured and finally coated with a polyvinyl chloride. Organic media specified include acetone, methyl cyclohexanone, dioxane and amyl acetate. The epoxy resin is a condensation product of a dihydric phenol and epichlorhydrin and it may be hardened by amines such as diethylene triamine, diethylamine, benzyldimethylamine and piperidine. The drying may be carried out at a temperature of between 80‹ and 100‹ C., the curing at higher temperatures such as 200‹ C. Specification 745,060 is referred to.
