Abstract

808,495. Electric control systems. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. May 28, 1956 [May 27, 1955], No. 15403/55. Class 40 (1). The power dissipation in a resistor R is maintained constant with variation of its resistance due to rise in temperature by feeding R through a constant current network LC from a stabilized voltage source and a potentiometer P1, the voltage drop across R being compared with that across a similarly connected resistor R1, any difference causing a servomotor to adjust R1 and the sliders of potentiometers P1, P2 until balance is regained. It is shown that if the potentiometers P1, P2 and resistor R1 are wound so that the power dissipation in R is constant. The network may be used in conjunction with the measurement of the thermal conductivity of a liquid.
