Class 139 In an electric clock the pendulum 18, Fig. 2, is supported at 19 and carries above the adjustable bob 22 a transversely adjustable permanent magnet 35. Pivoted to the pendulum 18 is a pawl 17 which as the pendulum swings to the right, steps-on a ratchet 16 geared to the clock hands (not shown). The pendulum is impulsed as it swings to the right by the inter-action between the permanent magnet 35 and a coil 26 connected to a battery 25 and energized thereby when the switch contacts 31, 29 are closed. The contacts 31, 29 are carried by spring blades 30, 28 respectively and are closed by the teeth of the ratchet wheel 16 acting on a projection 32 carried by the blade 30. A condenser 34 is connected to the blade 28 to prevent sparking between the contacts 31, 29 Adjacent the coil 26 is a damping coil 38. A dummy coil 39 is located at the other side of the pendulum.
