Abstract
807,893. Handle fixing devices. MEIGH CASTINGS Ltd. May 14, 1956 [May 14, 1955], No. 13993/55. Class 61. A tool head 9 having a handle or shaft receiving socket 13 is provided with a cross member 17 fixedly located axially of the socket and dividing the latter into separate channels the form of the cross member and socket being such as to cause divergence followed by convergence of the portions of the split handle or shaft when the latter is passed into the socket. As shown the cross member 17 is formed integrally with the socket. In a modification the cross member is separately formed and is disposed in openings in the side walls of the socket. The central part of the socket is elliptical in cross-section, the walls adjacent the major axis of the ellipse being bowed outwardly at 18. The walls 16 adjacent the minor axis of the ellipse are either inclined at constant slope or are parallel to the axis of the socket. The cross member 17 is of double convex shape, the thickest part lying opposite the portion of maximum cross-section of the socket. Specification 758,299 [Group V] is referred to.
