Abstract

A tube bend is formed by helically winding glass fibre about a mandrel, applying a precondensate of a thermosetting resin, e.g. an epoxide resin, heating to partly condense or polymerize the resin, cooling to inhibit the condensation or polymerization, removing the mandrel, inserting a sand core or a helical spring, heating the tube, bending it, and heating to complete condensation or polymerization. To increase its thickness, glass fibre tape impregnated with resin may be wound around the tube, whilst passing hot air through the tube. A final coating of resin may be applied to the outside of the tube.
