Abstract

1,011,411. Moulding resin impregnated glass fibre tubes. B.C.M. PLASTIC DEVELOPMENT Ltd. Nov. 8, 1961 [Nov. 13, 1960], No. 16902/60. Heading B5A. [Also in Division F2] A single interior widely spaced layer 11 of fully heat polymerized, resin impregnated glass rovings acts as a bending support for the remaining superimposed closely wound layers 14 which are polymerized to completion during the bending operation. The layer 11, e.g. comprising epoxy resin, is initially polymerized to the B stage and completed during winding of subsequent layers 14 which are polymerized to the B stage, prior to bending. Succeeding layers are wound alternately right and left hand. Heating during winding is at 150‹ to 250‹ F. by hot air or infra-red and, during bending at 200‹ F. followed by 400‹ F. to complete the polymerization. The tube thickness may be increased by applying further layers of resin impregnated glass fibre rovings or tape.
