807,407. Supporting surgical apparatus. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. Oct. 31, 1956 [Oct. 31, 1955], No. 31128/55. Class 81 (2). A support for a gag comprises an upstanding arm having a transversely extending upper portion for receiving the gag, means for securing the arm to an operating table and a ratchet mechanism which permits upward movement of the arm so that upward tension can be applied to the gag. The upstanding arm 1 has a lower solid portion 2 formed with ratchet teeth 4 and an upper hollow portion bent at its upper end to form a transverse portion 3. The hollow portion of the arm 1 has nipples 7, 8 for the supply and delivery of an anaesthetic gas. The transverse portion 3 is plugged and has a ribbed portion 9 of insulating material over which a gag may be hooked or looped. The lower portion 2 of the arm 1 is vertically adjustable in a sleeve 6 which carries a manually releasable spring-loaded pawl 5 for engagement with the ratchet teeth 4. A pin 11, which is attached to the sleeve 6 by a supporting arm 10, is secured by a screw 16 in a bore 15 of a clamp (Fig. 2) secured to an operating table.
