Class 142(2) In a weft-replenishing loom having solid cops, an ejector for the waste end of the cop is positioned between the edge of the fabric and the cop changing mechanism and enters the shuttle and ejects the cop before the shuttle reaches its end position in the shuttle box. Cop changing mechanism. Cop changing is initiated by a weft feeler 32 (Fig. 3) which when the shuttle is nearly exhausted, raises a lever 57 which strikes and moves a rod 58 at beat-up. The nose of the rod 58 (Fig. 5) engages between two projections 68, 69, on a pivoting lever 63 thereby locking together the lever 63 and another pivoted lever 60 in which the rod 58 is mounted. When the slay recedes a leather or chain connection 65 between the slay and the lever 63 pivots the levers 63 and 60. A further lever 62 pivoted at 62a to the lever 60 is moved by the levers 63, 60. A Bowden cable 39 is thereby pulled and operates the weft replenishing mechanism and swings the cop ejector 11 (Fig. 2R) into its operative position. Cop ejector. The pull on the cable 39 brings the ejector into its operative position where a projection on the shuttle lifts the ejector as the shuttle passes. An incline 55 in the floor of the shuttle raises the ejector to remove the cop. A brush 85 assists in removing the cop and ensures that the cop waste is not thrown into the fabric. Weft feeler. A feeler 32, positioned at the opposite side of the loom to the cop changing mechanism, is held away from the shuttle by a shuttle feeler 45 if the shuttle is not fully boxed (see dottted position in Fig. 3). When the slay moves forward, a spring loaded abutment 53 (Fig. IL) strikes a lever 51 and turns a shaft 46 carrying the feeler. If the shuttle is not exhausted, the feeler only stresses a spring 49. A spring50 returns the shaft 46 when the slay moves back. If the shuttle is exhausted, the feeler collapses the end of the cop 54 and raises an arm 57 to engage a rod 58 and initiate cop changing. The rod 58 and a finger 70 thereon are then moved at beat-up and pivot a lever 72, 73. As the slay moves back the end of the lever 73 retains a latch 75 (Fig. 4) and a lever 41 is released and turns under spring action so that its nose 40 engages and opens the shuttle threading device. Shuttle threader (Fig. 12). The threader comprises a member 34 pivoted at 34a and held in its open and closed positions by a spring-loaded pin 42 which engages a projection 34d on the threader. When cop changing is initiated a lever 41, (Fig. 4) having a projection 40 is turned to lie in the shuttle path and opens the threader when the shuttle next passes. During the next pick, with a new cop, the weft lies in a slit 84 (Fig. 12); on the following pick an abutment 37 (Fig. 1L) on the loom frame closes the threader at beat-up. Cutting weft ends. (Fig. 8). Both the old and new weft ends are cut by shears at the selvedge after a few picks have been laid with a new cop. The weft ends in the magazine pass through a slit 92 and are held by a clamping roller 99. At beat-up, a roller 105 on the slay engages and moves downwards a roller 103 thereby releasing the clamping roller and gradually withdrawing the cut end from the magazine.
