Abstract

Layers of a fibrous fleece of the consistency delivered from a carding machine are spread with layers of synthetic resins in powder form and superimposed to form laminated material with the resin between the fleece layers, whereupon the laminated material is placed in a heated press mould and shaped and compressed to form a finished moulding. Suitable resins are cresylic, phenolic and mixture of the two, epoxy, polyester and rubber-modified synthetic resins. For thicker mouldings the laminated material is precompressed between plates or rollers and stacked to form layers before being moulded. A nap of e.g. cotton waste may be wound on a roller while resin powder is sprinkled on it, stripped by an axial cut, precompressed between rollers and blanks cut from it of the size required for the moulding. For local thickening of the moulded product additional fibrous material is added in appropriate places. Screws or similar elements, or other reinforcement parts, e.g. of wood or plastic, may be located between the layers before moulding.
