A float-actuated valve for controlling the level of liquid in a tank includes a weight which is inactive during normal operation of the float but in the event of inversion of the valve or the application of negative " g " thereto, applies directly or indirectly a load to the movable member of the valve to set the valve in a " safe " position. To control the level of liquid in an aircraft fuel tank the valve comprises a main valve member 3 mounted on a flexible diaphragm 4 and controlling a tank inlet 1 and a pilot valve 14 controlling an outlet 7 from a chamber 6 below the diaphragm. The pilot valve is mounted on a frame 16 having ears 16a engageable with pins 22 carried on levers 20 which are pivoted at 18 to a fixed guide tube 10 and through pin-and-slot connections 21 engage a float 12. A weight 25 guided on a peg 24 is engageable with a button 26 on the frame 16. During normal operation the float raises the pilot valve 14 to close the chamber 6 in which pressure builds up to close the main valve 3. In the event of the aircraft being inverted or subjected to negative " g " the weight 25 will engage the button 26 to again close the pilot valve and hence the main valve.
