Abstract
806,152. Earclips. NORMAN, F. P. Jan. 24, 1956, No. 2280/56. Class 43. In order to relieve the effect of the pressure of an earring of the clip-on or screw-on type upon the lobe of an ear to which it is secured by inner and outer clamping-members, the inner clamping member, e.g. screw 18, Fig. 2, is provided with a pad comprising a cushion member 20 with one face adapted to contact the lobe, the other face of the pad being secured to one side of a resilient non-metallic pocket element 21, Fig. 4, provided with a distendable central opening 25 of continuous circumference to receive the inner clamping member which, in this example, comprises a button-like head on the end of the clamping screw 18. The pocket element 21 is also provided with a distendable opening 24 along a portion of its circumference in order that the cushion 20 secured to it may be attached alternatively to a clip-on type earring, Fig. 5, by forcing the inside clip 26 of the latter into the opening 24. The cushion 20, which consists of sponge rubber or similar compresible non-slipping material, is attached to one face of the pocket element 21 by an adhesive or other means. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown) the pocket element is formed by a short length of flat rubber tube secured by adhesive to one face of th pocket element 21 by an with open ends and an aperture in the part of the outer wall intermediate the ends for attachment to the alternative forms of clamping members. Each form of clip may be provided with a pad 28 which bears upon the outer face of the ear lobe adjacent to the jewel or ornament such, as 14, Fig. 2, and consists of resilient material, similar to that of. the inner pad 20, attached by a permanent adhesive to a centrally apertured disc 29 which, in turn, is attached to the inside face of the jewel 14, or clip 31, Fig. 5, by a re-usable adhesive disposed within the aperture of the disc, thereby permitting the pad to be removed for attachment to a different ear ornament or clip.
