Abstract

A mastic applicator A comprises a housing B having in one wall 11 an opening F over which is detachably secured a head G having a pair of spaced flanges 37, Fig. 6, which straddle the housing B and abut side walls 10 thereof, a flange 38 which abuts the wall 11, and a plate 36, the head G having an outlet opening H, e.g. a number of parallel slots 44, Fig. 6, which are positioned in registration with the opening F by the flanges 37, 38, and means for detachably securing the head G to the housing B. The housing B comprises side walls 10, a bottom wall 11 having the aperture F, a top wall 12, and a plate E, the end 17 of which pivots about a seat 16 in the end 15 of the housing, and a handle 21 joined to the plate E which can thus be swung about the point 16 against two springs 24 which are secured to the housing at 29 and <PICT:0805968/III/1> <PICT:0805968/III/2> <PICT:0805968/III/3> <PICT:0805968/III/4> to the plate at 28. A flexible wiper 23 is attached to the sides and top of the plate E. Mastic D is supplied to the housing initially, e.g. by a pump, through a tube 30 having a nonreturn valve 31, and rollers 51 on each end of a bar 48 carried by a central bracket 50 space the inlet 30 from the wall 46 to be coated. The head G, Fig. 6, is removably secured to the housing B by screws 41 engaging notches 39 and by studs 42 engaging notches 40. A modified head G1, Fig. 8, has an outlet H1 leading to a nozzle 58 having a part-spherical end 59 for a tool for applying mastic to corners as described in Specification 800,837, or the head may carry a nozzle 67 similar to that described in Specification 805,967 and comprising, see Fig. 9, a flexible guide 69 carrying an adjustable trowelling bar 70 mounted between end-plates 68. A rod 76 bearing on the guide 69 acts under a spring 77, the tension in which is adjustable by a wedge 81, to yield upwardly as the nozzle is moved over a strip of mastic deposited through a hole in the nozzle 67 in front of the guide 69 and bar 70.
