Description
Aug. 29, 1950 J. BEYERS FOUNTAIN TYPE SCREEN PAINTER Filed Aug. 20, 1947 INVENTOR. (72272 n fieye r s ATTO RN EYE Patented Aug. 29, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE FOUNTAIN TYPE SCREEN PAINTER John Bcyers, Perth Amboy, N. J.
Application August 20, 1947, Serial No. 769,643
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a screen painting device.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a mohair painting device which is easier to operate than a paint brush and which will save time in the spreading of paint and wherein the paint is included in the device itself and is spread automatically to the surface being painted.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a painting device for spreading paint which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my painting device.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal cross-sectional view, in elevation, of my device taken on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a transverse cross-sectional view of my device taken generally on line 33 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the device.
Referring now to the figvres, iii represents a top casing having a depressed portion Ii in the center with a hole l2 therethrough through which paint can be poured into the casing. About the hole is a sleeve formation 53 adapted to receive a closure cap I l for closing the opening I2. This casing is preferably made of plastic or lightweight material and is of such dimension that it can be readily and easily handled to move the same over a screen surface to be painted with my device.
The bottom of the casing if) is open and the exterior periphery has a recess i5 extending about all sides of the casing and adapted to receive upturned portions it of a mohair sheet ll adapted to spread paint. This mohair sheet is indicated generally at H and is extended across the full bottom opening of the casing 19. The upturned sides of the mohair sheet are fixed within the recess l5 by a collar or frame It extended around the recess and retained therein by screws l9 which are extended into boss portions 2| formed on the inner faces of the casing sides and such as to prevent leakage of paint through screw holes and to confine the outlet path of the paint to the mohair sheet IT.
This arrangement never clogs the holes in a screen which is being painted and is easier to operate than an ordinary paint brush. If the mohair sheet becomes worn it can be easily and quickly replaced at little expense. The paint feeds 2 itself automatically through the mohair sheet. The paint can be spread more quickly than with a brush and painting time is saved.
While various changes may be made in the detail constructon, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
I claim:
In a fountain type screen painter, the combination which comprises a substantially hollow rectangular shaped casing for holding in the palm of a hand and having an upper wall with depending side and end walls, the lower edges of said side and end walls being offset inwardly providing a continuous recess around the lower outer edge of said casing, the offset section of said side and end walls being reinforced at spaced points with inner vertically positioned bosses and having threaded screw receiving openings extended through the offset portions of the wall and into the bosses, the inner ends of said screw receiving openings terminating at points spaced from the inner surfaces of the bosses whereby leakage of paint through the screw openings is prevented, a rectangular shaped band providing a mohair sheet retainer frame positioned in said recess and having countersunk screw openings therein positioned to register with the said screw receiving openings of the bosses of the offset section of the walls of the casing, a mohair sheet stretched across the lower end of the casing and positioned with the edges thereof clamped in the said recess by the band, and countersunk head screws extended through the band and mohair sheet and threaded into the screw receiving openings of the bosses wherein the outer surfaces of the heads of the screws and outer surface of the said band are in planes flush with the outer surfaces of the walls of the casing.
