Abstract
805,941. Injectors. HIGGS, G. W. Nov. 15. 1956 [Dec. 1, 1955], No. 34428/55. Class 71. [Also in Group VI] Apparatus for supplying gas mixed with air to a chamber includes a nozzle which directs gas from a source under pressure into the throat of a venturi arranged in a passage through which air passes to the chamber and an orifice for admission of air into the venturi, the effective area of the orifice being controlled by a cover member having a spiral edge which on rotation of the cover member increases or decreases the exposed area of the orifice. Gas under pressure is supplied through a flexible tube received by an adaptor 19 which is screwed on to the head of a T-piece 11. A nozzle 18 integral with the adaptor 19 directs gas into a venturi tube 16 which is screwed into the other end of the T-piece head. Atmospheric air enters the venturi tube 16 through a bore in the stem of the T-piece 11. A disc 10 having an eccentric hole 12 registering with the bore of the T-piece 11 is secured to the T-piece 11. A second disc 21 is mounted for rotation on a pin 22 secured to the first disc 10 and carries a cover plate 23 with a spiral edge 24. The inner and outer ends respectively of the spiral edge 24 are at smaller and greater distances from the centre of the first disc 10 than the centre of the hole 12 so that, as the cover plate 23 is rotated with the second disc 21, it progressively covers or uncovers the hole 12. The degree of exposure of the hole 12 is indicated by markings on the rotatable disc 21 which register with a fixed mark 29 on the head 26 of the pin 22. In an alternative construction (not shown) atmospheric air enters a venturi tube, into which gas under pressure is projected by a nozzle, through an opening controlled by a rotatable sleeve having a helical slot. The venturi nozzle is disposed on the outlet side of a regulator mounted on a gas cylinder, pressure gauges on the inlet and outlet sides of the regulator being provided.
