Abstract

805,658. Washing granular materials. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A. G. March 20, 1957 [March 24, 1956], No. 9088/57. Class 82(2) A granular filter material having accumulated hydrophobic carbon black thereon, is washed by impinging one or more high velocity jets against the material whilst it is disposed on a water surface. The filter material floats until the carbon black is removed, when both the material and the carbon black sink, but at different rates so that they can be separated by an upward or oblique current of water in the apparatus which causes the carbon black to be carried over a weir. Carbon black coated filter material is fed into the tube 2 and water jets are supplied by nozzles 4 to impinge on the material at the water suface S. The free carbon black is washed over the weir 10 by water added at 12. The clean filter material is discharged at 8.
