Abstract

805,171. Two-part couplings. EGA ELECTRIC Ltd. Jan. 21, 1957 [April 7, 1956; Oct. 19, 1956], Nos. 10664/56 and 31828/56. Class 38 (1). [Also in Group XXXVII] Each part of a plug and socket coupling has a contact stack comprising superimposed contact blades and insulating pieces, pressure means being provided whereby the stack is clamped up within a housing, the arrangement being such that when the pressure means are released, any one of the blades can be removed independently of the insulating pieces. In one form, Fig. 8, the insulation 3 and the contacts 24 of the plug 23 are arranged in a housing 25 and are clamped by screws 28 bearing on a plate 26. The socket 32 is similarly clamped when the plug is inserted and has hairpinshaped contacts 33 with wire-receiving sleeves 35. Alternatively, the contacts 33 may engage one side only of the plug contacts, and terminal connections may be made to separate terminal pieces clamped up in the stacks. The stacks may be clamped by a cam bearing on plate 26, Fig. 11 (not shown), and two stacks may be clamped by a single cam acting either on top of both, Figs. 12, 13 (not shown), or between them, Fig. 14 (not shown).
