805,086. Filing cabinets. OTRANTO, Ltd. Dec. 12, 1956 [Sept. 17, 1956], No. 28354/56. Class 146(1) A filing cabinet for record cards 6 comprises a number of superposed pairs of spaced apart members 5, 10 between side walls 3, each pair of members consisting of a shelf 10 and back support 5 at an angle, such as a right-angle, to one another to form a trough in which a row of cards 6 is supported face to face, the pairs of members 5, 10 being inclined from front to back so that each row of cards 6 is tilted forwardly. The cabinet has a top 2 and may have pairs of members facing both ways, with doors or shutters to enclose the cabinet, or the whole may be enclosed in a removable hood. The cabinet may be mounted on castors or on a vertical pivot to turn on its axis. The members 5, 10 may comprise single bars or lines of bars. As shown, a double sided cabinet has the back supports 5 formed by a central partition 4 folded zig-zag fashion with right angles 1 between the supports 5 and 45 degree bends at top and .bottom to form horizontal shelves 8, 9 facing in opposite directions for use from opposite sides of the cabinet. The shelves 10 are of sheet material with turned over edges 11, 12 to strengthen the shelves and form a channel 13 to hold an adjustable supporting plate 14. Locking followers. A supporting plate 14 to slide along the shelves 10 is formed from a single sheet having a bent over lower edge 15, part of which is detached from the main plate and bent to form a strip 18 to engage over the front edge 11 and into the channel 13 of the shelf 10, and a further bent over edge 20 which lies on the top of the shelf 10. When rods are used as the members 10, a plain flat plate is used with holes to accommodate the rods.
