Abstract

804,037. Scaffold couplings. BOULTON TUBULAR STRUCTURES, Ltd. Nov. 11, 1954 [Nov. 11, 1953], No. 31198/53. Class 20(2) [Also in Group XXV] A scaffold coupling comprises a tube receiving body a, Fig. 1 with at least one L-shaped cover b hinged thereto, one arm b<SP>1</SP> of the cover being formed with a slot which is engaged by at least one projection a<SP>2</SP> from one side of the body, the other arm b<SP>2</SP> of the cover being of channel section having a jawed extremity to receive the shank of a bolt p carried by the projection a<SP>1</SP> on the other side of the body a and being shaped to engage the scaffold tube. In one embodiment a right angle scaffold coupling consists of a body a formed by a single pressing having a pair of hooked tongues a<SP>1</SP> and a<SP>2</SP> extending from opposite sides thereof and a second pair of hooked tongues a<SP>3</SP> (not shown) and a<SP>4</SP> extending from opposite sides at right angles to the pair a<SP>1</SP> a<SP>2</SP>. The tongues are formed on each side with horns a<SP>5</SP> the edges a<SP>6</SP> of which are adapted to abut the scaffold tubes m, n. One of each pair of tongues a<SP>1</SP> and a<SP>3</SP> is formed with a slot a<SP>7</SP> which hingedly receives a T-bolt q. Each of the scaffold tubes m, n is clambed against the body a by one of the L-shaped covers the slots b<SP>3</SP> therein engaging the tongues a<SP>2</SP>, a<SP>4</SP> being of U-shape. A rivet p in each of the projections a<SP>2</SP>, a<SP>4</SP> prevents inadvertent removal of the L-shaped covers from the projections. The extremities of the tongues a<SP>1</SP>, a<SP>2</SP>, a <SP>3</SP>, a<SP>4</SP> provide axially spaced supports for the tubes m, n. In a swivel scaffold coupling, Figs. 5 the body consists of two interconnected relatively rotatable units d, e as described in Specification 804,039, each having a dished portion from which extends a single pair of U-shaped projections such as d<SP>1</SP>, d<SP>2</SP> for the attachment of an L-shaped cover f and a clamping bolt q, as described with reference to Fig. 1. In a putlog coupling Fig. 9, two arcuate plates h are adapted to seat on opposite sides of a ledger tube n. Each plate h has an apertured projection t<SP>2</SP> at one end and a jawed projection t<SP>3</SP> between which the plates are cranked outwardly at t<SP>1</SP>. The plates are connected by a rivet w which passes through the apertures in the lugs t<SP>2</SP> and through the eye of an eye bolt u and by engagement of the hooked projection t<SP>3</SP> with the arms of a U-shaped slot in the flat arm b<SP>1</SP> of a L-shaped cover 1. The hooked projections t<SP>3</SP> and the U- shaped slot in the flat arm b<SP>1</SP> are dimensioned to prevent inadvertent disconnection of the cover l from the projections. By clamping the cover I on to the tube m by means of the bolt u the plates h are urged to grip the tube n. Specifications 804,038 and 804,040 also are referred to.
