Static electricity is discharged from a motor vehicle by means of a trailing wheel or roller connected to the vehicle, e.g. the exhaust pipe, by means of a single or double rod or chain. The contact wheel may be mounted as a swivelling castor or may consist of a ball rotating in a socket. Contact may be improved by means of a brush contacting the rotating part either axially. or radially, but as shown in a form having two wheels 4a, 4b, a bridge piece 6 fitted into holes in the wheels is connected to the hollow pivoted arm 2 by a spring 7 and slack wire 8.
