Abstract
803,794. Circuit assemblies. SIEMENS EDISON SWAN, Ltd. June 21, 1956 [July 8, 1955], No. 19884/55. Class 37. A circuit assembly including a plurality of component containing units, each comprising a frame of insulating material within which a number of circuit components are supported and terminal parts carried by the frame on to which components are wired; said units are assembled face to face to bring terminal parts into contact. One of the component containing units is shown in Fig. 1 and comprises an insulating rectangular frame 1 having a number of apertures such as 11 in each side. Pairs of terminal parts 4 are carried in shallow grooves adjacent each aperture and protrude from each face as at 8 to make contact with the corresponding part of the adjacent unit. Each terminal part is made from a C-shaped strip of hot-tinned metal having a soldering tab 10 which is passed through the aperture 11 and secured by bending the end portion 7 around the frame. The tabs 10 have holes large enough to take the wires from two or more components and project outwards to facilitate dip-soldering. A narrow groove 13 is cut in one face to accommodate the component wires. Junctions not connected to adjacent units may be made by substituting a terminal part as shown in Fig. 2 for a pair of the type described. The sides 21, 22 are compressed into an aperture such as 11 to retain the terminal in the frame. A keyway 20 is provided in two corners of the frame 1 for alignment with adjacent units. Fig. 3 shows another type of component-containing unit in which one side of the frame is either omitted as shown or provided with large holes for ventilation or illumination of the discharge tube 27 which is carried on an insulating shelf 32 located in grooves in opposite sides. Terminal parts of a type which make contact with corresponding parts of adjacent units on both faces are fitted as at 31. Outward projecting soldering tabs 38 and grooves 39 are provided as in the previous embodiment. A unit may comprise printed circuits connected to terminal parts. Complete circuit assembly.-Fig. 8 shows an assembly for a bi-stable trigger comprising two component-containing units A, B, a terminal unit X and an end plate 40. Units A, B are similar to Fig. 1 but have holes in one side to accommodate gas discharge tubes V1, V2 and terminal parts are only fitted in the apertures as required. The terminal unit X comprises an insulating plate 71 equipped with terminal parts such as 74 to contact the corresponding terminals on unit A. Each terminal is folded over one edge of the plate as at 72 and retained in a slot by being twisted through a right angle as at 75. Plugs or sockets may be fitted for external connections. Screens or partitions, formed so as not to interfere with the terminal parts, may be clamped between units. The units are secured together by bolts located in grooves 76, 77. A terminal notation system is also described.
