Abstract

<PICT:0803246/III/1> Electrostatic spraying apparatus comprises means arranged to be charged to a high potential for producing a stream of finely-divided electrically-charged particles, means for supporting the object to be coated in the path of the particles, and at least one plate located near at least a portion of the object, the plate being supported by an insulator and connected to a source capable of charging it to a high potential of the same polarity as the charged particles. Where more than one plate is provided the plates may be charged to different potentials. As shown, particles are sprayed from a source 10 connected to a high-voltage source 11 towards an earthed plate 20. In order to coat the remote side of the plate 20, insulated plates 22, 25 are charged by being connected to potential dividers 15, 21, connected between high voltage source 11 and earth. Plates 24 are connected to a separate high-voltage source 23 which charges them to a potential higher than that of the source 11. The atomizer may be a rotating cup, an air atomizer, or a stationary edge.
