803,206. Filters. SPARKLER MFG. CO. May 7, 1956 [Aug. 12. 1955], No. 14072/56. Class 46. In a filter apparatus of the type having one or more filter units in a sealed tank 1 wherein liquid is filtered into a centre discharge column 17, a scavenging unit is positioned below the lowermost filter unit 7 and comprises a separate filter unit, having a filter sheet 54 on a perforated plate 51 spaced from an imperforate plate 40. At the end of a filtering cycle by the units 7 the inlet and outlet to the tank are closed and gaseous pressure is applied to the tank. The liquid remaining in the tank 1 is forced through the tube 68 of the scavenger unit, which extends to a point closely adjacent the bottom of the tank, through channel 70, lower groove 47a, openings 46, upper groove 47, channel 56 and opening 38 to the closed space between the imperforate plate 32 of the lower filter unit 7 and the filter sheet 54. The filtrate passes through the filter, openings 50, channels 48 and 76, opening 72 to the outlet tube 74. Specifications 562,128, 681,415 and 698,917 are referred to.
