Abstract

802,981. Sliding clasp fasteners. CLARKE, W. J. P., KOPPEL, H. D., and AERO ZIPP FASTENERS, Ltd. Nov. 1, 1955 [Nov. 23, 1954], No. 33949/54. Class 44 In a tape 1 for a sliding clasp fastener, a strip 4 of textile material is stitched longitudinally on to the tape, the strip having a coating 5 of thermoplastic material, whereby the strip may be secured, when the thermoplastic material is sufficiently heated, to an article of material 8 to which the tape is to be attached, the strip 4 and stitching 7 being formed of cotton or other threads which will not become plastic or scorch under the heat treatment. As shown, the strip 4 is woven of more open form than the tape and is coated only on the face thereof which is not in contact with the tape. Under the heat treatment, the thermoplastic material may impregnate the relatively open woven material of the strip. The thermoplastic material may be a polyvinyl chloride dope incorporating a plasticizer and non-tacky at normal temperatures.
