Abstract

802,750. Finishing fabrics. WOLSEY, Ltd., YUILL, D. M., and GRAHAM, D. R. Dec. 31, 1956 [March 7, 1956], No. 7227/56. Class 42 (1). Wale spirality is eliminated from a tubular knitted fabric 11, Fig. 1, by a rotary guider member 13 disposed so as to cause the fabric to rotate as it passes over a stretching device 20. The member 13 is in the form of a wheel with its axis inclined to the direction of movement of the fabric and its circumference provided with pins or bristles 17 which may be bent at an angle to the wheel radii. A pair of driven friction rollers 9 each co-operate with a pair of idler rollers to grip the fabric above a trunk 8 in which a spindle 24 carrying the device 20 may be freely journalled. The device consists of a circular axle 21, or a number of curved axles, on which a number of angularly spaced bobbins 22 or rollers, such as rubber covered roller skate ball-bearing wheels, are journalled. The axle or axles are supported from the spindle 24 by a spider having spokes which may be made adjustable by connection to a sleeve 29, Fig. 4. Air is blown into the fabric and passes downwardly until it reaches the unstretched portion of the fabric where it passes outwardly into the ambient air tending to unwind the fabric which is carried by a bin 1 rotatably mounted on anti-friction bearings. The inclination of the member 13 to the vertical and of its supporting arm 14 to the horizontal may be adjusted.
