Abstract
802,747. Packaging. UNION CARBIDE & CARBON CORPORATION. Jan. 23, 1956 [Feb. 4, 1955], No. 2137/56. Class 94(1). Articles of foodstuffs, such as meat and poultry, are packaged by enclosing them in a sealed bag formed from a seamless polyethylene tube produced by the method described in Specification 801,256 [Group IV(a)], and suddenly subjecting the package to a temperature exceeding 100‹C., e.g., by immersing it in a heated liquid, so that the polyethylene film from which the bag is formed shrinks into close contact with the packaged article. The temperature to which the package is subjected is preferably in the range 102‹C.-108‹C. The bag may be evacuated before it is sealed.
