Abstract

802,410. Resilient mountings; frictional vibration-dampers. ALLIED RESEARCH ASSOCIATES, Inc. Nov. 1, 1956 [Nov. 8, 1955], No. 33359/56. Class 108(3) A vibration-absorbing mounting comprises two members 1, 13, for engagement with an article A and a support T respectively, and a plurality of beams 4 supported on the member 1, the members 13 being slidably supported on the beams 4 which extend transversely of each other so that sliding movement along one beam 4 flexes another beam 4. As shown in Fig. 1, the member 1 comprises three triangularly disposed channel cross-section members 1<SP>1</SP> having bearings 6 of steel or nylon for the respective square cross-section ends of beams 4. Rubber cushions 7 are provided at the ends of the beams 4 which in a modification are carried in sleeves recessed into the cushion 7 in place of the bearings 6, Fig. 4 (not shown). The member 13 is rigid with a plate 11, supported from the beams 4 bv means of nylon sleeves 17 which are slidable on the beams 4 with friction damping. The frame 1 may be secured to the article to be mounted by means of screws through holes 3 engaging with bosses welded or screwed to the article to be supported, Fig. 6 (not shown). In Fig. 9, in which the member 1 is four-sided, two sides 31 being in a plane at right angles to a plane containing the other two sides 32, the article A does not need to be secured to the mountings. Moreover, the mountings need not be secured to the mounting T. In a further modification, Fig. 7, the members 1 are secured to the mounting T and each corner of the article A rests in a portion of the member 13. Deflection of the beams 4 may be limited by rubber buffers 8. The friction damping of the sleeve 17 may be increased by spring-loading.
