Abstract

802,231. Amphibious ferry-boat. EISENWERKE KAISERSLAUTERN. June 3, 1957 [June 4, 1956 ; August 7, 1956], No. 17497/57. Classes 113 and 114. A self-propelled amphibious vehicle constructed as a ferry with a broad deck or platform and a drive-on ramp 26 articulated at 32 for swinging over on to the deck, has a chassis or wheels retractable into chambers open only at the base. Increased buoyancy is obtained from inflatable bodies 5 secured by foldable carrier plates 2 having parts 2a and 2b hinged to a bracket 4 foldable into a recess 7 in the side of the vehicle. A compressed air installation fills said bodies and evacuates said chambers. The deck may be widened by extension plates 11 carried on brackets 10 when the latter are swung out from the side of the ferry. The brackets carry a kerb or scraping board 19. The vehicle is propelled on water by a propeller 30 which is adjustable in height, mounted at the end of the vehicle remote from the ramp, and swingable on to the deck.
