802,193. Wood working. NEMAHO N.V. Sept. 5, 1956 [Nov. 14, 1955], No. 27240/56. Class 145. A method of joining wood boards in end-toend relationship by glueing consists in sawing them lengthwise to equal width, forming grooves in their end faces and applying a coating of glue to such faces, and then moving them lengthwise in end-to-end relationship so that the glued ends are pressed into contact with each other. Boards are supplied on a conveyer 1 to a saw 2 for cutting to equal widths before being passed by a conveyer 3 to be assembled on edge in face-to-face relation on a conveying carriage 5 to form a packet ; sets of rams are provided on the carriage for compressing and urging the boards lengthwise in either direction against an abutment so as to align the end faces of the boards. On the forward movement of the carriage 5, one end face of the packet is grooved by a milling device 6 and glue applied by means of a device 7. During the return movement of the carriage, devices 8, 9 are operative for grooving, and applying glue to the opposite ends of the boards. If desired one of the devices 7, 9 may apply glue and the other a hardner. The packet is transferred from the carriage 5 to a face-down position on the conveyer 10, and a further conveyer 11 then feeds the boards individually to a glue press 12 which presses the grooved or toothed ends of the boards together to form a continuous length and which contributes to the conveyance of the boards as a composite unit. The composite boards then travel along a conveyer 13 until they abut against an adjustable stop 14 when a saw 15 automatically cuts the composite board to the required length. The cut-off length is moved laterally by a slow-moving chain conveyer 16 (during which time the glued joints dry) to a further conveyer 17 which passes the board through a two-sided milling machine 18 where the boards are cut to the required thickness and /or the glue seams are smoothed before continuing on the conveyer 19 to receive subsequent operations.
