801,132. Agricultural implements. ONTWIKKELINGMAATSCHAPPIJ MULTINORM N. V. Nov. 18, 1954 [Nov. 24, 1953 ; Sept. 30, 1954], No. 33485/54. Classes 6(11) and 6(3). A machine for cultivating the soil comprises a rotatable wheel 2 provided with a plurality of helicoidally shaped blades 9, at least part of the outline of each blade when viewed in the axial direction of the wheel conforming to an insolute generated by a base circle co-axial with the axis of rotation of the wheel, the wheel being mounted on a frame 1 and rotated so that the linear speed of the blades at ground level is opposite to and greater than the forward speed of the machine so that each blade is disengaged from the soil ahead of it in the direction of movement of the frame. As shown the wheel 2 is driven by a motor 20 which also drives wheels 4 and the machine is steered by means of a wheel 14 and handle 15. The wheel 2 may be raised and lowered manually by means of a rack 18 and pinion 16 and as the wheel 2 is mounted at one side of the machine an adjustable counterweight is provided at the opposite side of the machine. Means may be provided for moistening the surfaces of the blades. In a modification a one way plough is formed by providing two wheels mounted to rotate in opposite directions on a pivoted frame so that the wheels may be raised and lowered at the end of each ploughed furrow. A multi-unit plough is formed by three wheels mounted in a staggered position. The blades on each wheel may be mounted to rotate or tilt to deposit soil laterally. The blades may be arranged so that soil is discharged into the interior of the wheel where it may be sieved and ejected laterally out of the wheel. This embodiment can be used for digging potatoes and the blades are formed as fork-like members. In a further modification wheels are mounted at an angle inclined to the direction of forward movement.
