Abstract

800,870. Moulding concrete pipes, posts &c. AUCAMP, J. D. Oct. 13, 1955 [Oct. 22, 1954 ; July 5, 1955], No. 29219/55. Class 87(2). [Also in Groups X and XXVIII] Concrete &c. pipes are cast in situ between shutters 1 and a core 10 which is rotated and withdrawn by a handle 23 and bevel gear 19. The shutters 1 are supported by yokes 7 and the core 10 is supported by a bearing 15 on a slide 16 carrying the handle 23. A cable 28 is connected to an end yoke 7 and is adapted to be wound on a drum 24 when this is connected to the handle 23 by a clutch 25 to move the slide 16 along the top of the shutters 1 and withdraw the core 10. The core 10 passes through a bridging member 9 between the shutters which carries a core cleaning rim 11. A sleeve 13 forms a socket in the end of the pipe to guide the end of the core into position for casting the next length of pipe. Branch pipe fittings 37 may be cast in the pipe. Pure cement is sprinkled on top of the core when the level of concrete is just below the top of the core and the core trowels the cement to form a bore with smooth and water impervious surface. Dolomite may be added to form an acid resisting coating. An expansion joint is formed in the pipe by a briding plate in two halves so that it may be removed. Reinforcing wire, as a preliminary step is wound round the core 10 and subsequently cast in the pipe. The bridging member 9 may have an attachment to mould a socket in the end of the pipe and a plate at the other end of the pipe moulds a spigot. To cast a longer pipe, e.g., for a fencing pole a short core 39, Fig. 9, abutting the end of the core 10 and adapted to be turned by a handle 40 is supported by a bridging member 38 at the end of the shuttering 1.
