800,599. Embossing-machines. UNITED PLASTICS INDUSTRIES, Inc. Dec. 9 1955 [Jan. 4, 1955], No. 21700/57. Divided out of 800,598. Drawings to Specification. Class 100(2) Apparatus for embossing thermoplastic film comprises means for heating the film to an embossing temperature, and means for passing the film about a porous rotatable drum having an embossing surface, suction being applied at all times throughout the full 360 degrees of the drum surface, at a rate, in relation to the porosity of the surface, to maintain within the drum a sub-atmospheric pressure low enough to cause the film to be forced firmly against the embossing surface, and thereby produce sharp embossing of the film. The subjectmatter is the same as part of that of Specification 800,598, and according to additional description the stripping roller is perforated and the interior thereof connected to a pump producing a suction applied to the film less than that applied by the drum; the stripping roller is connected to drive means through a speed regulator so that it may be driven at a speed greater than the peripheral speed of the drum to apply a positive pull to the film and prevent its winding about the drum beyond the take-off line.
