Abstract

799,650. Retardometers; recording-apparatus. CHANGY, G. DE. Sept. 21, 1956 [Sept. 23, 1955], No. 29010/56. Classes 106 (3) and 106 (4). Recording-apparatus comprises a disc 39 on which the different decelerations to which the apparatus is subjected are recorded in substantially radial lines and is characterized by means 28, 25 for rotating the disc 39 through the same angle after each deceleration is recorded. An arm 22, carrying an inertia block 21, is urged against a stop 43 by a compression spring 31, guided by a rod 33, and upon a deceleration the arm 22 swings anticlockwise about its pivot 23 causing a stylus 45 to record an arcuate line on the disc 39. The disc 39, which may be of waxed paper, is clamped by a nut 42 between a glass plate 40 and shoulder 41 of a shaft 26. The shaft 26 has secured thereto a ratchet wheel 25 restrained against clockwise movement by a detent 27 and advanced anticlockwise by a pawl 28 upon return movement of the arm 22. The pawl 28 is urged against the ratchet wheel 25 by an arm 22 and is prevented from driving it more than a tooth at a time by a cam 44. The disc 39 is graduated in concentric circles over the full range of decelerations normally anticipated and a record mark extending beyond these circles indicates that the apparatus has been subjected to a shock forcing the block 21 against a spring-loaded plunger 36. The apparatus is housed in a casing 48, a hinged lid 53 gives access for disc changing, an arcuate slot is provided for the stylus 45 to work in and an arrow on the lid indicates the correct orientation in which the apparatus should be mounted.
