Abstract

799,643. Portable containers; closing containers after filling. UNILEVER, Ltd. Dec. 4, 1956 [Nov. 25, 1955], No. 33797/55. Classes 66 and 94(1). A container or package formed from two bodies 1 and 2, has an external flange 3 constituted by joined together portions 4, 5 of the two bodies, there being a tubular filling opening 8 in the flange 3 formed by opposite parts 6, 7 of the portions 4, 5, at least one of the parts 6, 7 lying outside the plane of the flange 3 and the body or bodies having such a deformed part are made of a thermoplastic material which has the property of resuming its preformed shape on the application of heat. Polyvinyl chloride and polystyrene are suitable plastics. After filling the container or package through the opening 8, the opening is closed under heat and pressure. The upper body 2 may have protrusions 9 and 10 that can be clipped off to form pouring openings. In a further construction the part 2 is replaced by a plain flat sheet of thermoplastic material and in this case the portions 4 and 5 need only be sealed together adjacent the edge of the flange 3 so that a consumer can open the container by cutting off the flange 3. The hollow body portions 1 and 2 may be made by vacuum drawing whilst applying heat.
