Abstract

798,877. Lenses. BIRCH, M. H. Oct. 9, 1956 [April 17, 1956], No. 11717/56. Class 97(1) [Also in Group XXIII] A plastic lens blank having preformed refractory surfaces has at least one of the said surfaces at least partially covered by a sheet of flexible material secured thereto by adhesive so that the sheet is capable of being removed without damaging the refractory surface. The sheet or sheets may be transparent and may completely cover the surfaces. As shown a spectacle lens blank 11 has secured thereto a transparent adhesive sheet 12 marked at 13 with the outline shape 13 of the focal lens and having marks 14, 15 indicating the position of the optical and geometrical centres and the horizontal axis 16 and cylindrical axis 17 of the lens. The markings assist the edging operation to protect the lenses during the final setting up, polishing and wiping of the mounts.
