Abstract

A frame of soft wood, e.g., firwood, is filled with fibrous material, e.g., wood fibres incorporating a binder, e.g., a phenolic resin, and the whole is compressed to form a flat article, e.g., a door. The frame is originally of a much larger cross-section than it has in the finished article and the compression takes place at a temperature of at least 100 DEG C., and the pressure is not released until the article has cooled sufficiently for the steam produced in the filling to have condensed, e.g., to a temperature of 60 DEG C.
