Abstract

Articles of synthetic resin are formed by first preparing a core, comprising one or several pieces of wood or other suitable material, by impregnating it with synthetic resin and compressing it, then placing the prepared core in a mould, filling up with moulding powder and producing the complete article in the usual manner. The moulding powder may partly or entirely surround the core and may penetrate between the sections of a multiple-piece core to bind them together at the same time. The moulding powder may be charged with any of the known fillers, for example sawdust, chippings, wood meal, vegetable fibres, waste paper or asbestos powder or fibre. Preferably the filler used in the moulding powder will be of the same nature as the constituent of the core, for example a wood meal filler for powder surrounding a wooden core.
